The Houston Apartment Association is actively involved in the legislative process at the local, state and national levels. We represent and advocate for the apartment industry and our members with area policymakers, helping them understand the important and complex needs of those who provide housing to their constituents.
HAA's territory covers a 12-county region including: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Waller and Wharton counties, as well as all the cities located within those counties. All of these jurisdictions have some authority over the industry and housing.
The decisions our elected officials and regulatory agencies make directly impact our industry and the jobs that HAA members do every day. It is important that HAA have an active role in code and fee development, city ordinance and regulation proposals to ensure that the industry’s perspective is heard.
Without maintaining a business friendly, pro-housing climate, our members will no longer be able to provide quality, safe affordable housing for our residents and the opportunities for growth in our region will decline.
In addition to our advocacy efforts with policy makers, we are very active in engaging with our judges and constables. There are few, if any, elected officials that impact the daily operations of HAA members as much these elected officials. Having a judge who follows the law and one who does not, can have an incredible impact on your ability to do business.
The HAA Government Affairs team works to protect rental housing industry in our region and promote affordable housing, while maintaining positive business climate throughout the Houston area.
