In 2013, under the leadership of then HAA President Mack Armstrong, the Houston Apartment Association began a strategic outreach effort to better serve members throughout the HAA’s 12-county service area.  As a result, HAA volunteers and staff are working to create “Area Council” groups, to allow multifamily professionals to network, learn and advocate as part of regional groups.  HAA is taking a vast array of programs and services on the road, to locations convenient to member properties.  Now, through area council meetings, members from Matagorda to Pasadena to Sealy to The Woodlands, can meet with their colleagues closer to their communities.   


Q: What is an “area council?” 

A: An area council is a regional group of multifamily owners, managers and supervisors who meet on a regular basis.  The group discusses issues and hosts speakers on hot topics.  A meeting is likely headed to a community or venue near you.  The Houston Apartment Association’s territory covers a 12-county region including: Austin County, Brazoria County, Chambers County, Colorado County, Fort Bend County, Harris County, Liberty County, Matagorda County, Montgomery County, San Jacinto County, Waller County and Wharton County.  To check out upcoming Area Council meetings, just visit the HAA calendar or contact Lauren Owens.



Q: What is an “area council leader?” 

A: An area council leader is an individual who has been identified by the Vice President at Large for that region to attend city or town council meetings, on a quarterly basis, helps recruit new members to join the area council, participates in HAA membership activities held in their area, promotes the political action committee and candidate events to the area council members.



Q: Who may attend an area council meeting? 

A: Area council meetings are open to all multifamily owners, managers and supervisors in the area.  They may attend regardless of HAA membership. All area council meetings are closed to supplier members, unless otherwise noted on the event promotional materials.

A. We have area councils in 15 Houston area cities. Alivn, Baytown, Conroe, Humble, Katy, Missouri City, Pasadena, Pearland, Richmond, Rosenberg, Seabrook, Stafford, Sugarland, The Woodlands and Tomball.
