HAA collected more food this year than every before and showed the community the generosity of the apartment industry and our supplier partners. Many thanks to all the properties and companies who participated and helped HAA collect more than 50,000 pounds of food and over $1800.00.

The annual KTRK Channel 13 "Share Your Holidays" food drive was Wednesday, December 5, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., at locations throughout Houston. HAA delivered food and cash donations the morning of the 5th. The Houston Food Bank lists HAA as one of the top 25 donors to their organization.

The Houston Apartment Association is participating and needs your help. We would like to get as many apartment properties as possible to collect nonperishable food.

If your property or management company plans to collect food during the holiday season, why not work with HAA and help us make the largest contribution from any local organization? Let's show the community the generosity of the apartment industry.

Here are ideas on how to collect food successfully on site:

• Set up a collection box at the leasing office. You can decorate your own box, or you can pick up a box at the Houston Food Bank, located in the Herzstein Center, 3811 Eastex Fwy., Houston, Texas 77026, 713-223-3700, or you can decorate your own box.

• Place a flier at each resident's door or in your newsletter to announce that you will be collecting food during November.

• Visit your local grocery store and ask for a supply of paper bags. Explain to the manager that they will be used to collect food for the Houston Food Bank. (They should give bags to you free of charge.) Place a bag outside the door of each apartment asking that the resident fill the bag with nonperishable foods. Indicate when you will be returning to pick up the bag and to place it outside the door.
