Designation Maintenance Requirements


Now that you've successfully completed the necessary components of your National Apartment Association designation there are certain requirements necessary to maintain this hard-earned accolade.


Continuing Education

In order to ensure that all designates are kept abreast of the constant changes and new information within the multi-family industry, designates are required to obtain CECs (Continuing Education Credits) to further their education and involvement within the industry.

The CEC requirements are listed below by designation. Each credit is equivalent to one classroom hour of instruction.

CAM: 6 CECs
CAPS: 6 CECs
NALP: 3 CECs
CAMT : 3 CECs
CAMTII: 3 CECs
CAS: 2 CECs

A minimum of one credit hour must be obtained by attending a program containing information on Fair Housing, Equal Employment Opportunities, or the Americans with Disabilities Act.

One half of the required CECs per renewal period must be attained by attending NAA or NAA affiliate courses, seminars, programs or activities, including:

Serving on or chairing NAA or NAA affiliate boards and committees.

  • One CEC may be earned per year per NAA or NAA affiliate activity
  • A maximum of 3 CECs may be earned per year for these activities

Volunteering to instruct NAA affiliate members, designation candidates and designates, if the trainer/instructor is not a professional trainer who is compensated for this training.

CAMT teaching assistants are considered volunteer instructors.

  • One CEC may be earned per hour of instruction
  • A maximum of 3 CECs per year may be earned for these activities

Serving as a volunteer grader, assigned by NAA to grade designation projects.

  • One CEC may be earned per grading assignment
  • A maximum of 3 CECs may be earned per year for these activities

The other half of the required CECs per renewal period may be attained by:

  • Attending education programs sponsored by other national housing organizations: IREM, NAHB, NAHMA, NAHRO, ULI or national professional associations such as: American Management Association, American Marketing Association, American Society for Training and Development, etc.
  • Completing work-related courses in the approved subject areas offered by technical schools, community colleges, junior colleges and universities.
  • Volunteering to serve on local, state and national boards, commissions, task forces and committees related to the housing industry or which help to enhance the image of the apartment industry (e.g. fair housing board, elderly housing commission, Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, etc.)
  • One CEC may be earned per year per board, commission, task force or committee
  • A maximum of 3 CECs may be earned per year for these activities
  • Volunteering to instruct multifamily professionals through programs sponsored by national housing organizations, if the trainer/instructor is not a professional training consultant who is fully compensated for this training.
  • One CEC may be earned per hour of instruction
  • A maximum of 3 CECs may be earned per year for these activities
  • Writing original articles that are published in multifamily industry magazines or online publications, if the writer is not compensated for this work. Articles must be published during the renewal period; one CEC may be earned for every two hours of writing and research.
    • A maximum of 3 CECs may be earned per year for these activities

Renewal Fees

So that the National Apartment Association can maintain records and information within their system, it is required of all designates to pay annual renewal fees. Invoices from NAA are submitted to all designates in January with payment required by February 28. Annual renewal fees are listed below by designation. Individuals holding multiple designations will be required to pay multiple renewal fees.

CAM: $50
CAS: $50
CAMT: $50
CAMTII $50
NALP: $35

Reinstatement fee for expired designations: $50.00

Patch: $10
