Update: To assist multifamily rental property owners with the recent fee increase, the City of Houston has instituted a rebate program for water conservation .
The City of Houston's City Council voted to raise water rates on all customer classes, effective beginning June 1, 2010. Our thanks go to Council Member Mike Sullivan, Council Member Oliver Pennington and Council Member C.O. Bradford for voting against this rate increase.
The rate increase is substantially higher on MultiFamily users than on single family users, though much lower than originally proposed by the City of Houston. HAA is continuing to work with Mayor Parker to moderate the increase and come up with a more workable plan for all water users to reach 100% of the City's cost of service.
Water costs could increase as much as 30% - 40% per month, depending on your water usage, effective June 1, 2010. You should receive your increased water bill by mid-summer.
