Visit the Food Bank's website for ideas on fundraising and a customizable collection ideas and downloadable tracking poster for display your progress! http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/fooddrive.aspx

Here are some basic ideas for collecting food on site

  1. Set up a collection box at the leasing office.  The Houston Food Bank has collection boxes or you can decorate your own box.
  2. Place a flier at each resident’s door or in your newsletter to announcing you will be collecting food during November.
  3. Visit your local grocery store and ask for a supply of paper bags which you can use to place at each apartment door asking resident’s to fill the bag with non-perishable food.
  4. Place a flier in the mailbox area announcing the food drive and where/how to donate.

If you are not able to collect food but want to help, please donate $ online . HAA has set up a special Facebook cause where proceeds will go directly to the Houston Food Bank.  If you would like to donate to the pets go directly to their website Rescue Bank

Last year HAA members and residents collected 45,000 pounds of food. Please contact Susan Hinkley at 713-595-0313 or shinkley@haaonline.org  to participate.

HAA first began collecting food in 1983 and the Houston Food Bank lists HAA as one of the top 25 donors to their organization.
