The Census and Apartment Managers

Posted by Government Affairs on Thursday, May 06, 2010

We are receiving some reports from area managers that Census numerators are out and doing follow up visits for those who did not return their Census forms.

Here are a few tips for managers to remember:

  • By law you must provide access to the property to official Census and American Community Survey numerators.

Before granting access, you should always check the identification of those claiming to be Census or ACS workers.

    • Official numerators will have a badge issued by the Census Bureau and a bag with the Census logo on it.

  • If a Census worker exhausts all reasonable effort in attempting to collect information by going door to door, they may come to your office and request the names of occupants on your property.  They must provide you reasonable time to provide the information and may not ask for detailed information on the occupants (only names).

Please visit our Census Resource Page for more information from NAA, HAA and the Census!

Also, watch your mail for an informative postcard from HAA (created through a grant from the United Way) regarding your responsibilities as an owner.
