Fire Alarm Retrofit Update

If you have recently received a vist from a Houston fire inspector, this information is for you!
The inspector who visited you was referring to a requirement in the Fire code that mandates fire alarm retrofits in properties with buildings that have more than 16 units or more than three stories, that were also built before 1986 and do not have sprinklers.
We are working with the Fire Department on a phase in, to allow properties time to comply with the requirements. The resource page on Fire Alarm Retrofits has the latest update on our efforts. In the meantime, the Fire Department has been asking for owners to get bids for work, and to create a plan of action for addressing the code. You should have 90 days from the inspector’s visit to comply with the request for the plan. The actual components required by the code are listed at the link above, too, so that should help you ensure you aren’t being sold a system that has more than you need.
We'll continue to update the resource page with the latest information, as it becomes available.
