We've received info about a potential scam from a member. After a quick
internet search of the company that called the property's maintenance
folks (we've X'd out their name below), several reports of
similar scams turned up. Beware of using vendors you aren't familiar with - make sure they are HAA members first. Here's what our member said:
To make a long story short, a sales person somehow gets in contact
with a maintenance man, gets his name and tells him that the management
has confirmed an order.
Bulbs are sent out - they are about 4
times the price of regular bulbs, and unless the property questions the
invoice, XXX receives payment for the bulbs. This has happened
on two of our properties. The first time we paid at a discounted rate
to finalize the invoice and not have an outstanding invoice. They
charge a 20% restocking penalty and no returns.
